Member of the House of Representatives, MdA
for Gropiusstadt, Buckow Nord, and the Blumenviertel (North)
Politics by your side.
What I Stand For
Since 2021, I’ve had the privilege of representing our district—Gropiusstadt, Buckow Nord, and the northern part of the Blumenviertel—in the Berlin House of Representatives. I was born and raised here, and I still live in Gropiusstadt today. That’s why it’s very special for me to represent the district where I’m from.
Back when I was a teacher, I told my class at Clay School in Rudow:
Politics that’s accessible.
Politics that fights for local people.
Politics on your side.
On September 20, 2026: Vote for Hopp!
Who I Am
I was born in February 1988 at the Neukölln Women’s Clinic on Mariendorfer Weg, the son of a nurse from South Korea and a trained metalworker and engineer (who had earned his degree through adult education) from the Eifel region.
I spent my childhood and youth in the area between the Hufeisensiedlung, the allotment garden colony on the Teltow Canal, the “big playground” on Möwenweg, all around the Neukölln Hospital, all the way to the Gropius Passage and the Gropiusstadt outdoor pool.
After attending elementary school at the “Grundschule im Regenweiher” in Gropiusstadt, I earned my high school diploma at the Leonardo da Vinci School in Alt-Buckow. I then studied German and history at Humboldt University in Berlin to become a teacher.
Today, I still live in Gropiusstadt. I really enjoy living here. From early 2015 until my election to the Berlin House of Representatives in September 2026, I worked as a teacher at the Clay School in Rudow.
With all our hearts for Neukölln.
What I Do
Since September 2021, I have had the privilege of representing you in Neukölln’s Constituency 4—Gropiusstadt, Buckow Nord, and the northern part of the Blumenviertel—as a member of the Berlin House of Representatives (MdA). In the Berlin House of Representatives, I serve as the SPD parliamentary group’s spokesperson for education, science, and research.
In addition, I serve on the following committees:
Education, Youth, and Family
Science and Research
Urban Development, Construction, and Housing
As your local representative, I address the concerns of the people in my district. My commitment to the community where I grew up motivates me every single day.
Since March 2024, my neighborhood office at Jungfernmühle (Goldammerstraße 34) has also been open to you. Together with my team, we’ve already been able to help hundreds of residents with their concerns.
To give you an idea of what I’ve been able to achieve for Neukölln over the past four and a half years—especially for Gropiusstadt, Buckow Nord, and the northern Blumenviertel—I’ve put together a report brochure. It highlights a selection of specific projects and achievements from my work as a member of the state parliament.
My goal remains clear: a livable, affordable, and socially inclusive Neukölln for everyone.
You can find my brochure summarizing my work here.
In my free time, I have also been volunteering with the SPD Neukölln since 2011. The issues that are particularly important to me include social policy and the fight against poverty, urban development and housing, policies for children, youth, and families, education policy, and migration policy.
Among other roles, I serve as chair of the SPD Gropiusstadt chapter and as vice chair of the SPD Neukölln chapter.
I was also active for several years in the Gropiusstadt Residents’ Council (GBV). Today, I volunteer as a board member of the August Bebel Institute and as vice chair of the executive committee of AWO Südost. I am also a member of the Falken and the GEW Berlin teachers’ union.
I am particularly committed to promoting a strong democracy, a society based on solidarity, and the fight against anti-democratic and anti-human sentiments. To this end, I am very active on social media, among other things. According to the analytics platform “Inflact,” my Instagram account ranks among the top 35 accounts nationwide in terms of reach in the “Politician” category.
In February 2026, S. Fischer Verlag also published my debut nonfiction book, “What’s It to Me? – Why We Can Only Stop the Shift to the Right Together.”
